Things I look for in a book to make sure I enjoy it before selecting it are descriptions. Such as the descriptions usually found on the back of the book. Also, the cover art of the book is another thing I look for, if it looks interesting, I'll read it. And lastly, I usually like to read books about fantasy, sci fi, adventure, or maybe post apocalyptic type things.
Things I look for when picking out a book are what type of genera it is who its by and what type of reading level it is. In my mind a good story has a lot of adventure and very event full.
For a story to be good, something always has to be happening. I usually choose something if it looks good from the first few pages. I am always looking for a good book that includes adventure and drama. I think those are the best books you can get.
A good story in my mind has to be fiction, and have a good story line. something has to be going on the entire time. I don't like books that characters are just talking for 100 pages something has to be going on. Ithas to have a good background, the setting has to be all together, witch means no jumping around with the timing. I like the book to have more than 1 main character.

I like a book that includes fantasy or science fiction that has some action in it, I like reading those kind of books because they are unpredictable and when the story is completely controlled by the writer than the book is usually going to be good. I like to check to see if the book has a good story to it, when the book has a good story then I'm usually quick to get into it and the faster I get into it the more I want to read.
